Lubricant reservoirs for central lubrication units

Central lubrication systems are responsible for supplying a large number of lubrication points with lubricant at the same time in order to constantly compensate for evaporation and aging-related losses. In machines or systems with single-line or progressive lubrication systems, the lubricant is continuously lost, unlike with circulation systems. Central lubrication systems must therefore have an appropriately dimensioned reservoir in order to compensate for the losses at all times.

The lubricant reservoir therefore plays an important role in central induction and progressive systems. It is directly connected to the pump and provides it with new grease or oil during the suction process. The lubricant is then forwarded to the main and secondary metering devices via the pump elements and then distributed to the lubrication points by the metering element in accordance with the specified quantity. The size of the lubricant reservoir depends largely on the intended application. Since single-line and progressive systems are used for systems and machines of different sizes, the amount of lubricant required in the reservoir also varies.

The material also plays a role in the selection of the right lubricant reservoir or replacement reservoir. As a rule, the user has the choice between plastic reservoirs and metal reservoirs of different sizes.

SKF lubricant reservoirs

SKF offers various plastic and metal reservoirs for its SKF MonoFlex and SKF EasyRail systems. The KWx series reservoirs are made of synthetic plastic and are suitable for use with oil. Depending on the application, the models in the series have a volume of one, three or even six liters. In the basic variant, a float switch is provided for the minimum fill level. If you want, you can alternatively opt for an additional float switch to display the maximum level or a pre-warning function. With regard to the type of contact, a distinction is made between the three variants of normally closed, normally open and changeover contacts.

SKF metal reservoirs have a volume of three or six liters and are also available with various float switches to indicate the minimum or maximum level. The contact types and sealing materials are also available in the same variants as for plastic reservoirs. Optionally, the metal reservoirs can also be equipped with a level meter. Thanks to the modular principle, the plastic and metal reservoirs can also be easily ordered as replacement reservoir. Thanks to the universal compatibility of the SKF assemblies, installation is no problem.

When lubricating with grease instead of oil, we recommend using metal or acrylic lubricant reservoirs. The models in the BF series are suitable for greases up to NLGI class 2 and can be ordered with or without a warning switch for critical fill levels. The acrylic version is available with a volume of 2.5 or 5.0 liters, while the metal reservoir offers space for 4.5 or 6.0 liters of lubricant.
